SOUTH Lakeland woke up to another light sprinkling of snow this morning, closing the A592 between Ambleside and Patterdale and The Struggle.

It is thought the Kirkstone Pass (A592) has since reopened, although The Struggle is closed except to drivers of 4x4 vehicles.

It is not thought that any other roads have been affected and there have been no reports of accidents, although it seems several people have been taken by surprise.

A spokeskan for the Rothay Garth hotel took to Twitter to say: "Bit of a shock to see all this #snow this morning!!! Road from #kendal to #ambleside very passable - just take your time!!"

Sarah Leiper‏ also said: "Snow :O what is wrong with this kendal weather :/"

While Kate Braithwaite‏ added: "In ST, Kendal in top 4 places to live with bags of community spirit, well connected, spectacular scenery and this morning lots of snow!"

The lowest temperature in the area in the last 24 hours was at 9pm last night, when the mercury fell to -1.1C in Shap.

According to the Met Office, temperatures are not expected to fall below 2C today.

It is thought the snow is now turning to rain in most areas.
