KIRKBIE Kendal GCSE student Lauren Hine has finished as runner-up in national engineering competition We Made It.

The Year 10 pupil was joined by technology teacher Chris Kieser and Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron at the contest held in the Houses of Parliament.

Lauren’s UV Ray Detector was pipped to first place by eye-catching LED bicycle clips. Mr Kieser said: “This is a new contest aimed at getting young people thinking about a career in manufacturing and I am delighted with the quality of Lauren’s work.”
