Cumbrian gardens to open to the public this weekend

GARDENS across Cumbria will open to the public this weekend marking the Lake District's link with William Wordsworth and daffodils.

The poet planted thousands of daffodils in memory of his daughter at Dora’s Field, near Ambleside - which is one of seven National Garden Scheme gardens opening this Sunday.

The gardens opening are Holehird, Windermere, Eller Howe, Lindale, Dora's Field, Ambleside, Rydal Hall in Rydal, High Moss in Portinscale near Keswick, Newton Rigg College Gardens, Penrith, and Acorn Bank Garden and Watermill in Temple Sowerby, near Penrith, Dr David Willis, a retired lecturer in horticulture, will give a talk from 2pm-3pm at Newton Rigg College, Penrith, on Sunday.
