Update: Two taken to hospital after two-vehicle crash on A591 near Grasmere

TWO people have been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle crash on the A591 near Grasmere.

Emergency services were called to the accident at around 2.20pm.

A male driver was cut free from his vehicle by firefighters before being flown to Furness General Hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance.

A second person was taken to the same hospital by land ambulance but both casualties' injuries are not thought to be serious.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said they were being treated for back and head injuries.

Motorists were delayed in the area while emergency services gained access to the scene.

One driver described traffic in the area as at a 'standstill' for a time.

The road was clear again by 4.50pm.
