DETECTIVES in Barrow are urging residents to secure their properties after burglaries at two homes in the town yesterday (Thursday).
The first occurred at a house on Abercorn Street at around 1.30am when the property was entered and a handbag stolen.
Then, between 10pm and 7am, a purse was stolen from another house on Aberdare Street.
Both homes were insecure when they were targeted, police said.
Detective Constable Sarah McArthur said: “We are investigating and appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about either burglary to come forward and contact Barrow CID.
“These incidents highlight the importance of securing your property in order to keep thieves out and make it difficult for criminals to get hold of your things.
“Please check that your doors and windows are locked at all times. For more crime prevention advice, visit www.cumbria.police.uk or contact your local neighbourhood policing team on 101.”
Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the vicinity of Abercorn Street and Aberdare street is asked to contact Barrow CID on 101.
