CHILDREN in South Lakeland can enjoy a host of fun and free activities in their Easter holidays.

Sure Start children centres across the region are set to hold a series of events for youngsters aged up to 11, kicking off with the Easter Extravaganza at Arnside Educational Institute on Wednesday (April 3).

It follows on from the success of a week of arts and crafts held during February’s half-term in Windermere and Bowness when a number of activities were available to the children.

PC Sarah Blacow from the local police station helped with the mock zebra crossing and a certificate was produced for all the children who participated.

Part way through the session the Fire Brigade arrived with the fire engine, and the children enjoyed the opportunity to sit in the engine and fire the water.

One mum, Michelle Wright, of Sedbergh, was full of praise for the activities.

She said: “The holiday events gave my daughter the opportunity to try different activities and meet friends, old and new.”

Sharon Haslam, community development and volunteer coordinator, said: “Local children had a great time sampling the many arts and crafts on offer in our recent events and also learning vital safety skills.

"We are especially thankful to all the volunteers who helped out at the events. We would encourage children up to the age of 11 to come along and join in for fun and learning this Easter.”
