TWITTER users can now keep up to date with the work of firefighters in South Lakeland and Eden.

A Twitter account has been created for the Kendal area, which stretches as far north as Appleby, to Arnside in the south and Ambleside in the west.

The account, @Fire_Kendal, will keep followers informed about incidents in the area, promote safety messages and highlight work the service is engaged in.

It will also be used to encourage greater interaction between Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and local people.

Brian Steadman, service delivery manager for the Kendal Locality, said: “We’re really looking to utilise Twitter as a way of highlighting our work and interacting with the people we serve.

“Twitter’s popularity seems to grow and grow and it allows us to get out information about who we are and what we’re doing quickly to an unlimited amount of people.

“I’d encourage any Twitter users interested in finding out about the type of work we’re involved in or wanting to find out where incidents are taking place to give us a follow.”
