A MAN has died in a fatal accident on the M6 this morning (Friday).

Cumbria Constabulary has confirmed they are dealing with the incident between the Junction 42 slip road off the M6 and Newbiggin Road, Dalston.

The collision involved one vehicle, a heavy goods vehicle, driven by a man who was pronounced dead on scene. It is believed that the driver is not local to Cumbria.

Police are now working to formally identify him and inform his immediate family.

Diversions are in place as junction 42’s roundabout is partially closed. Traffic travelling north on the M6 are not able to exit at Junction 42 and will need to use junction 43.

Traffic travelling south on the M6 need to use J43 or J41. Traffic travelling north on the A6 are now able to travel onto Dalston as traffic will be diverted into Carlisle via Durdar Road.

Due to the continuing closures, there is still considerable disruption in the area and motorists are urged to be patient and use other routes wherever possible.
