DETAILS of how South Lakeland District Council has revised controversial plans to zone land for housing will go public on Monday.

The authority is to publish additional information relating to its Land Allocations Document.

A public inquiry into the soundness of the proposals was suspended last November after SLDC said it wanted more time to investigate some of the issues rasised in the hearing.

Now, a schedule of modifications has been drawn up and, along with supporting documents, will be available for the public to view.

The documents will be available at South Lakeland House in Kendal, Ulverston Town Hall and libraries at Arnside, Grange-over-Sands, Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, Milnthorpe and Ulverston, plus online at www.southlakeland.gov.uk

Comments on the revised plans can be made up until 1pm on May 6.

Feedback received will then be forwarded to Government-appointed planning inspector Simon Berkeley ahead of the resumption of the inquiry.

In October, the inquiry was told that Kendal’s schools would be unable to cope if the plans were OK’d.

The claim was made in evidence gathered by Cumbria County Council, which stated that two more primary schools would be required and the town's two secondary schools would be pushed above capacity.

A month later, SLDC requested the hearing be suspended to 'thoroughly investigate' a number of issues raised during the inquiry.

Mr Berkeley has been tasked with establishing whether the document, which identifies potential areas to accommodate 6,000 homes in South Lakeland by 2025, is ‘sound’.
