A NORTH Lancashire man arrested on suspicion of killing a 41-year-old woman and her six-year-old son remains in a serious condition at the Royal Preston Hospital this morning.

The identities of the victims, who were found dead in a Bolton-Le-Sands house yesterday at 11.40am, have not been released yet as police work to notify family members.

The results of a post-mortem examination are expected to be released later this morning.

Officers were called to the house on Lowlands Road in the village where they made the discovery.

The woman was found downstairs while her son was in the upstairs front bedroom of the semi-detached dormer bungalow. Both had sustained knife injuries.

A 34-year-old man with stab wounds, apparently self-inflicted, who was also found inside the property was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Superintendent Paul Withers said the man was known to the victims, and that they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Tributes have started to grow outside the family's home with flowers and teddy bears left on the pavement.

One message from Vicky, Jon, Matthew and Finley read: "In the arms of the angels, fly away from here. I know you're in good hands now. Rest in peace."

Neighbour Peter Hammersley, 46, a night manager at Tesco, said: "They literally just moved in a few weeks ago. An elderly person moved out and I just saw them, a youngish family, moving in with the boxes and giving it a quick lick of paint.

"You tend to say hello to everybody when you are out walking the dog but I didn't really speak to them. I assumed the man was some sort of tradesman.

"This is not something you expect to see around here."
