Four rescue teams and an ambulance came to the rescue of a 73-year-old man who had fallen on a Furness beach this afternoon.
The man had been injured on a sandbank at Edge Bank, near Aldingham, at around 1.45pm, and tides of 8.3 metre were expected at 3.10pm.
RNLI Barrow, Walney and Millom Coastguard and Ulverston Inshore Rescue were all called assist but the man was rescued by the North West Air Ambulance.
Shaun Charnley, RNLI Barrow Coxswain, said: “We got close to the scene having encountered a lot of shallow water en route, and simply stood by in case we were needed to transport the injured person to a more accessible place for an ambulance, but the air ambulance did the job for us."
