FUNDRAISERS from a South Lakeland and north Lancashire charity are appealing for participants and volunteers to sign up for a good cause.

Raising more than £360,000 over the last six years, CancerCare will once again fill the streets of Kendal with pink as the Star Walk returns on May 18.

And this year sees a new five kilometre route for those who cannot quite manage the ten.

Organiser of the event Helen Hartin said: “There are so many many people disappointed that the Race for Life in Cartmel was pulled this year, so that was the thinking behind our new route.

“10km is not accessible to lots of people with cancer or for children, so hopefully the five will attract more people.”

JK as Robbie Williams, who has performed around the world, will also appear, singing many of Robbie’s greatest hits from ‘Let Me Entertain You’ to ‘Millennium’ and ‘Angels’.

Women from the Clarins counter in Beales, Kendal, will also be on hand for free face-art, make-overs and facials. Alongside those taking part, CancerCare needs plenty of marshals to keep everyone safe and in good spirits.

Mrs Hartin said: “Marshals are just important in terms of safety for those running or walking. People stand in groups and there is some great banter between them and those taking part - it’s a great atmosphere.”
