PLANS to develop the Berners Close site in Grange-over-Sands will go on display at a one-day public consultation next week.

South Lakeland District Council and Grange Town Council are hosting the event at the Victoria Hall on Wednesday (May 8) for residents and the wider community to have a look at the latest proposals.

The scheme includes affordable housing for local people, as well as a green open space with the potential for ideas including a play area and community allotments.

A small part of the site will be sold on the open market to raise funds for the redevelopment of the outdoor Lido; for which a separate consultation will be held.

Coun Graham Vincent, SLDC portfolio holder for Communities and Wellbeing, said: “I would encourage everyone who lives in Grange-over-Sands and the wider community to come along to this one day event and see the plans for themselves.

"SLDC and Grange Town Council have worked in partnership to address the issues at Berners and have come up with some exciting proposals.

"We want feedback from the public and I am looking forward to hearing what they have to say once they have seen the plans.”

Rob Brittain, property services director at Two Castles Housing Association, added: “Working with Esh Property Services as part of the redevelopment at Berners Close, we are proposing to deliver what will be a flagship housing scheme for the area of 45 energy-efficient homes, including 22 one and two bedroom flats, as well as 23 two, three and four bedroom homes.

"There is currently a high demand for quality affordable housing in the Grange-over-Sands area and this consultation will give us an opportunity to listen to the views of local residents who have the opportunity to make a real difference in helping to shape the community in which they live.”

Leader of Grange Town Council Tom Harvey said: “This is a great opportunity for residents in Grange and the wider area to have a real say in how Grange Town Council and our partners develop the Berners site in a way that is both realistic and deliverable and to ensure that it both adds to and enhances our town.

“It’s also the first step in what will be a much longer road to bring the Lido back into use as a community asset and while the two parts are inextricably linked, the focus at this stage is solely on the community led provision of a range of truly affordable housing.”

Anyone can call into the consultation between 2pm and 7pm. The proposals can also be viewed at www.southlakeland.gov.uk andwww.grangeoversands.net from Wednesday (May 8).
