A SERIES of roadshows are to be held in hospitals around Morecambe Bay as part of National Dementia Awareness Week.

The week of action, between May 19 and 25, will also include several events organised by the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, including a vintage 1940s tea dance and information stands run by hospitals and voluntary groups.

It is estimated that in the Morecambe Bay area some 4,423 people suffer from some form of dementia. This is set to double over the next 30 years.

Dianne Smith, matron for professional standards in dementia at the trust, said: “We hope as many people as possible can come along and find out more about what services are available for people who have dementia or memory problems.

“With support from voluntary sector at these road shows we aim to provide a wide variety of information about the support available for those people diagnosed with dementia and their close friends and family.

“We look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the events.”
