Jimmy Carr

Lakes Leisure, Kendal

Jimmy Carr - the 'equal offences' comedian brought the Brewery's Freerange comedy festival to a roaring end.

For there is no group of society that the comic will not rip it out of, and in my view always to hilarious effect.

He opened the show with a self-defecating comment in reference to his recent disgrace over his tax arrangements, saying he knew he was in trouble when the Prime Minister interrupted a G8 meeting of world leaders to call him a (insert expletive).

Kendal proved something of a tame audience when it came to heckling, which has become as integral a part to his routine as his jokes. The first decent comeback was in answer to the question 'What is the worst thing you've ever been bought as a gift?' to which there was the response 'These tickets!'

The comedian could almost have climbed into the audience to shake the man's hand, and prompted a retaliatory, and rather extravagant, 'Yo Mama..' joke.

Otherwise he was given a very easy ride by the crowd, who sat back and let his wave of one-liners – double and triple entendres enmass – wash over them; most of which could not be repeated in a newspaper.

That is with the exception of “I read Great Expectations. It was not as good as I thought it would be,” and the phrase ‘tintintin’, translated outside of Yorkshire as “It isn’t in the tin”.

All in all, it was a brilliant couple of hours with one of our sharpest funny men.
