DRIVERS in Cumbria are being advised that a rolling programme of routine maintenance and repairs focusing on gulley and man-hole covers got underway this week.

The £120,000 Highways Agency project started on Monday and will continue until Friday August 9. The work will be taking place at several locations between Lindal-in-Furness and Lindale - including at Swarthmoor, Ulverston, Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge.

The Highways Agency is stressing that work will be taking place at only one location at a time and with traffic management in place along short sections of the carriageway. Single carriageway sections of the route will require temporary traffic lights to help manage traffic past the repairs and dual carriageway sections will be subject to single lane closures.

Although the work will be taking place around the clock, temporary traffic signals will be removed wherever possible during peak travel times. When traffic management is in place there will be a reduction in speed limits on the approaches to and past roadworks for the safety of road workers and drivers.

The timetable for the work at specific locations is as follows: * Greenodd - Monday July 15 to Thursday July 18 * Lindal-in-Furness to Ulverston - Friday July 19 to Monday July 29 * Rusland Pool - Tuesday July 30 to Thursday August 1 * Newby Bridge - Friday August 2 to Tuesday August 6 * Meathop - Wednesday August 7 to Friday August 9
