9:53pm Friday 16th August 2013 in News
A MOTHER and son were flown to hospital after their family car collided with a heavy goods vehicle in Eden.
The incident happened just before 4pm on the A66 at Warcop.
Paramedics attended the scene and were assisted by the Great North Air Ambulance and the North West Air Ambulance.
A five-year-old boy, suffering from a potentially serious head injury, was flown to the Pediatric Major Trauma Centre at James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough by the GNAA.
The boy was said to be stable on arrival.
The father and daughter were transferred to the same hospital by road.
The mother was also taken to hospital by NWAA.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Two people had got out of the car but one person remained trapped.
"Crews used special cutting equipment to free the person who was trapped.
"They were then handed to the care of paramedics and the air ambulance service."
