6,000 Kendal properties affected after water main bursts early Saturday morning
A BURST water main in the north of Kendal affected around 6,000 properties over the weekend.
Many houses and businesses woke up on Saturday morning to water discolouration and low pressure.
United Utilities said a 12" trunk main had burst around 4am on Saturday morning on Castle Street.
Engineers switched valves to pump water directly into affected homes and by around 8am everyone was back on, the water company said.
"Unfortunately, due to the high number of visitors to Kendal's MintFest there was a lot of demand on our system, and some properties on higher ground suffered from intermittent poor water pressure at peak times like lunch and tea time," said Polly Rourke of United Utilities.
The road was closed temporarily until it was completely repaired and put back into use at around 10.30pm.
"We were able to partially re-open Castle Street yesterday (Sunday), but it may need to be closed temporarily again at some point today (Monday) to allow final tarmaccing of the road repair. This should only take an hour or two."
