Disruption expected as work on Brettargh Holt roundabout begins next weekend
3:26pm Monday 2nd September 2013 in News
A MONTH-long project to improve road safety at the Brettargh Holt roundabout is expected to cause traffic disruption for motorists.
A £280,000 Highways Agency project to upgrade safety barriers along the eastbound carriageway of the A590 in Cumbria towards its junction with the M6 will get underway next Sunday (September 15).
Most of the work, which will be carried out around the clock, will take place in a lane one closure of the dual carriageway.
A 50mph speed limit will be in place.
The whole three miles of the eastbound carriageway between the roundabout at Brettargh Holt with the A591 and junction 36 of the M6 will be closed between 8pm and 6am between September 15 and 17 and October 10 to 12.
During the overnight closures, eastbound drivers seeking to join the M6 will be diverted north along the A591 to junction 37 via Kendal.
Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: "Drivers heading towards the M6 may wish to leave a little bit of extra time for journeys during peak times and note the dates when the eastbound dual carriageway will be totally shut overnight as a fairly lengthy diversion will be in place through Kendal."
