Cumbrian riders attempt Coast to Coast route on horseback
8:56am Sunday 8th September 2013 in News
VETERAN Cumbrian horseman Mike Myers is leading a group of riders aiming to complete the Coast to Coast route on horseback - a feat believed to have never been attempted before.
Mr Myers set off yesterday (Saturday) from St Bee's Head with a team from Cumbria Trail Riding. They expect to take ten days to complete the journey to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea coast.
The 66-year-old has been riding along the bridleways and tracks of Cumbria for most of his life and has put together some of the most challenging horse rides availabled in the UK.
He planned his ride on behalf of Cumbria Trail Riding as a new feature in the company's adventure rides across Cumbria.
He said: "The coast to coast will be the biggest challenge yet, I now know why no one has attempted the full version before - it has taken a vast amount of planning.
"The hardest part of organising the ride was planning the stop over points for the people as well as the horses.
"Not all the B&Bs we are staying at have grazing available to the horses so we had to organise overnight stops with local farmers."
