Drinking, smoking, eating: Cumbria does too much of all three, warns campaign
A CAMPAIGN to cut premature deaths in Cumbria has begun.
Cumbria County Council has launched its "Long Live Cumbria campaign".
The county was ranked as one of the worst in the country for early deaths from health issues like heart disease, lung disease and strokes.
Delivered by the council’s public health leaders, the new campaign aims to improve life-expectancy and good health.
Patricia Bell, the authority's cabinet member for public health and communities, said: “Whether we smoke, drink to excess, eat too much or exercise too little, there are things we can all do to reduce our risk of developing heart disease, cancers and other conditions.”
Dr Rebecca Wagstaff, Cumbria’s acting director of public health, said: “ Our lifestyle, the condition of the home we live in, the job we do and our income have far more impact on our health."
