Good Food Guide salutes Urswick's General Burgoyne
THE General Burgoyne in Great Urswick has made it into The Good Food Guide for the second year running.
Described as a ‘reborn Lakes Pub’ and awarded a cooking score of three, it is an increase on last year’s score of two.
The General Burgoyne on Church Road, is one of just 18 main entry listings for Cumbria and one of only three for Furness.
The guide is regarded as the UK’s number one for dining out in restaurants, pubs and cafes.
Recommendations from customers inspire inspectors to make an anonymous visit and assessment, only revealing their presence when a congratulatory letter drops on their doormat a few days before the guide is published.
Chef Patron Craig Sherrington and his wife Louise took over the running of the Frederic Robinson Ltd pub in July 2010.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be listed again in the most prestigious food guide in the UK. We’ve been here for just three years at the General Burgoyne – so it’s a real privilege to have our hard work recognised," said Mr and Mrs Sherrington.
Inspectors rated the General Burgoyne with a cooking score of three which translates as “good cooking, showing sound technical skills and using quality ingredients”.
