Cash and jewels taken as three houses burgled during Torchlight in Kendal, say CID

KENDAL CID are appealing for witnesses after three houses were targeted by burglars on Friday night.
Detectives say entry was forced between the hours of 6pm-9.30pm with cash and jewellery stolen.
Detective Sergeant John Dilks said: “From our initial enquires there is a clear link with these offences. The houses broken into are on Calder Drive, Kentmere Brow and Burneside Road, which are in a similar area of Kendal. The method used to gain entry to these properties was also similar.
“We are fully aware that these offences occurred while the Kendal Torchlight Carnival Procession was taking place and it is likely the offender has used this knowledge to target unoccupied houses."
"However the very fact that this event was in progress may assist us in our witness appeal. There will have been many people in these areas at the relevant time, either attending or returning from the procession. Please think, did you see or hear anything suspicious? Were there any people, or perhaps vehicles, which you were unfamiliar with?”
Police said the premises targeted were secure and they want to reassure the public that burglaries are extremely rare in Kendal.
However, police say they would remind people to continue to lock and secure all doors and windows when they leave their homes.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101 and speak to an officer from Kendal CID.
Any information will be treated in the strictest of confidence or alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
