Cash for Ambleside stories project
THE Heritage Lottery has awarded more than £7,000 to an Ambleside educational charity for a project looking at changes in the tourist industry.
‘All Our Stories’ is the brainchild of the Learning Plus charity and will examine how tourism has changed in Windermere and Ambleside over the last 60 years.
Project workers will gather memories and anecdotes from local people during the next year alonsgide facts and figures from people who have been affected by changes in the tourist industry.
This will include workers in the industry – but project co-ordinator Ron Creer is also keen to hear from recent arrivals, such as migrant workers or people who came to the area as tourists and now live here.
Mr Creer has started to contact organisations relating to tourism that have been established long enough to have seen the changes, including Hayes Garden World, Windermere Cruises and Zeffirellis bar and cinema.
He said he was trying to remain ‘as open minded as possible’ about the findings.
