School in Barrow closed early due to harvest mites
11:48am Friday 20th September 2013 in News
WALNEY School in Barrow-in-Furness has closed early today due to a problem with harvest mites in their New Building.
A statement on the school's website said it had been 'proactive' in dealing with the mites but that this was 'still an ongoing problem.'
At the moment it is intended that school will be open at 8.40 on Monday morning, and pupils unable to go home early today are to be supervised in the School Hall.
Acting Headteacher Mrs Helen Collis said: "This decision has not been taken lightly and close monitoring of the problem indicates we now act quickly in order to safeguard the health of children and adults and enable immediate further action to eliminate the problem."
