Roll up for show of starling acrobatics
1:00pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
LEIGHTON Moss is about to witness one of the UK’s most impressive wildlife highlights this autumn - the majestic acrobatics of hundreds of thousands of starlings at dusk over Morecambe Bay.
Each autumn, the birds begin to converge on the largest reed beds in England in the heart of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The giant flocks can be seen each evening in an awe-inspiring display of synchronised acrobatics, before finally pouring into the reeds to settle down for the night.
Michael Holgate, owner of nearby Greenfold Holiday Cottages, said: “It’s mad and frantic – better than any firework display or fairground ride.”
