New speed limits to be introduced in three Eden villages

NEW speed limits that will improve road safety are being introduced in three Eden villages.
Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Eden today agreed to implement or extend 30mph zones in Brough, Tebay and Blencarn.
This move is part of an annual review of current village speed limits conducted by the county council that includes requests made by councillors, the police, parish councils or members of the public.
The new limits will be implemented as follows: * Introduce 30mph speed limits in and around the centre of Tebay on parts of roads including the A685, Church Rise, Church Street and Galloper Park.
* Introduce 30mph speed limits in and around the centre of Brough on parts of roads including Croft Close, Castle View and Black Bull Lane.
* Extend the 30mph zone on the C3004 at Blencarn by around 200m in a south-easterly direction.
Consultations on the proposals were undertaken during June 2013 with details being finalised and advertised during August 2013. No objections were received during the consultation.
Coun Martin Stephenson, Chairman of Eden Local Committee, said: “With the introduction of these new 30mph zones a consistent speed limit will be in place in Tebay and Brough that will enhance road safety while extending the 30mph zone in Blencarn, at the request of the parish council and local residents, is going to slow vehicles down before they enter the village.
“From the consultation we carried out we know the local communities are in favour of the new limits that will benefit motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.”
