4:28pm Friday 27th September 2013 in News
BUSINESSMEN and women from across the region will soon be gathering for tonight’s Westmorland Gazette Business and Tourism Awards.
The annual glittering ceremony is now in its fourth year and is fast becoming a mainstay on the business calendar.
Tonight’s awards, held at Kendal’s Castle Green Hotel, will showcase our area’s top businesses in 11 categories.
Managing directors and entrepreneurs who make a vital contribution to the local economy submitted their entries and have been whittled down to 33 shortlisted hopefuls.
Representatives from the shortlisted companies will be in attendance tonight to see who will come away with a prize.
There 11 categories are: Team of the Year, Green Business Award, Innovation and Technology, Social and Community Development, Place to Stay, Hotel of the Year, Retailer of the Year, New Business of the Year, Training and Development, Tourist Attraction/Tour Operator of the Year, and the top prize for Business of the Year.
Categories have been sponsored by some of the area’s best-known companies and educational establishments – Kendal College, Lamont Pridmore, Furness College, Banks Renewables and KTD.
The event will be hosted by Norman Prince, one of the region’s favourite entertainers and founder of the Houghton Weavers.
Norman has almost two decades of live broadcasting experience on BBC radio stations in the North West and is acknowledged by his peers as the ‘King of Comperes’.
