Drainage work to start on A590 between Meathop and Lindale junction on Monday

DRIVERS are being advised that work to repair and improve drainage along the A590 around Lindale will begin next week.
The £180,000 Highways Agency project, which is due to start on Monday and last until October 27, will be delivered in three phases with single lane closures of the dual carriageway for just over a mile between Meathop roundabout and the junction with the local road to Lindale. It will be closed with a diversion to the next available local road to Lindale in place.
In the first two phases of the work either lane one of the westbound or eastbound dual carriageway will be closed for drainage work in the verge. The third phase of work will require simultaneous closure of lane two of the dual carriageway in each direction for work in the central reservation.
The work, which includes renewal of drain covers, hardening of the central reservation and safety barrier replacement, will be taking place around the clock and a 50 mph speed limit will be in place past the roadworks.
Laybys along the route will close when adjacent lane one closures are in place.
Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: "This is important work to improve road safety along this section of the A590 to ensure drainage clears rainwater more quickly, including during very heavy periods of rainfall.
“Although we are closing single lanes of the dual carriageway the A590 will remain open at all times and we are not expecting significant disruption to drivers although those travelling at peak times may wish to leave a little bit of extra time to travel past the works."
