Cumbrian driver re-education contract renewed
12:00pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
A ROAD safety initiative which retrains drivers and bikers who commit motoring offences in Cumbria is to be renewed.
Cumbria Police will continue its contract with the education group TTC as part of the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme. Since being introduced in Cumbria in 2009, hundreds of drivers and riders have since attended courses on speed awareness, driver alertness and the Rider Intervention Development Experience.
The scheme is credited with helping to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on Cumbria's roads, which last year fell to its lowest level since 2000 - 30 deaths and 164 serious injuries compared to 53 deaths and 437 serious injuries in the Millennium year.
