3:00pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
DALES communities that will be playing host to thousands of Tour de France enthusiasts next summer have been given the opportunity to benefit from a share of £20,000 to boost tourism.
Parish councils and community groups can receive up to £500 to help fund tour-related activities and make the most of visitors that will pour into the district.
Richmondshire District Council has set up the Tour De France fund to make the Grand Depart event a memorable spectator experience on July 5, 2014.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is offering a similar scheme where communities in the park can also receive £500.
Hawes and High Abbotside Parish Council chairman John Blackie said there will be a public meeting held on Wednesday, October 16, in Hawes where a number of plans put forward will be discussed.
“We want to make the day the Tour de France came to town a fabulous memory that will live vividly for many years to come - we are most unlikely to see it again in our lifetime,” he said.
Funding applications open on Tuesday, October 1 and close May 31, 2014.
Application forms are available at www.richmondshire.gov.uk/businesscommunity/fundinggrantschemes.aspx or by contacting email@example.com or 01748-827022.
