DRIVERS using the A66 around Keswick are being advised of overnight repairs taking place later this week.

Both the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the route at Troutbeck, about seven miles east of Keswick, will benefit from the £55,000 Highways Agency project to tackle pot holes and carry out other repairs.

The work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am on Thursday (3 October), Friday and Saturday nights with the work completed by 6am on Sunday morning (6 October).

The work will be focusing along about half a mile of the route in both directions and traffic will be managed past the roadworks by temporary traffic lights. At times traffic will be held at the traffic lights and taken past the roadworks in 10mph convoys led by a contractor's vehicle.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: ''This is a routine repairs and maintenance project and road users will benefit from a smoother road surface as well as renewed road markings.

''Anyone planning to use this section of the A66 overnight should leave extra time to complete journeys as there will be some waiting at the temporary traffic lights.''
