Investigation taking place to find those responsible for dumping waste at Ulverston beauty spot
11:52am Monday 7th October 2013 in News
ENFORCEMENT officers are investigating who is responsible for the illegal depositing of waste at a Furness beauty spot.
Large amounts of waste have been deposited illegally on Birkrigg Common, Ulverston, land that South Lakeland District Council is responsible for.
It is understood that the waste may have been left there to build an unofficial bonfire.
SLDC has not given permission for a bonfire to be built or held at this location but the council will remove it.
John Barwise, Neighbourhood Enforcement Officer for SLDC, said: “We have received complaints that a large quantity of waste has been left at Birkrigg Common, including green waste and builders waste.
“This waste is piled up high and also spread over a large area of the common. As we haven’t given permission for a bonfire on this site, the waste has been deposited illegally and we are investigating this offence. The waste will be removed today.”
“Waste should not be left at this site under any circumstances and we would ask that anyone who has information regarding the depositing of the waste contact SLDC by calling 08450504434 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.”
