Killington hydro-electric scheme approved
9:20am Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
A MICRO hydro-electric scheme which will harness water flowing out of Killington reservoir to provide green energy has been approved by South Lakeland District Council.
Designed by Adam Cropper, of Kendal-based Ellergreen Hydro Ltd, the turbine will generate electricity for local houses and sale to the National Grid.
The installation is being developed with support from the Canal and River Trust, which maintains and operates the reservoir. It will provide 140 MWh of renewable electricity a year - enough power for 35 average homes.
Mr Cropper says the scheme would save around 87 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
