Ulverston coffee morning raises cash for cancer charity
1:38pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
An event to raise money for the charity Macmillan Cancer Support was planned by the residents of Hoad Terrace in Ulverston - with the key organisers being local children, all under the age of ten.
“They have been planning the event all summer, planting out seedlings from their gardens, making bunting and choosing toys which they were prepared to see go to fill their toy stall,” said one of the organisers, Linda Turner.
“The whole community came together to make the event happen, with people making jams, cakes and a lovely mulled cider for all to share! The night was rounded off with a huge bonfire.”
She added that the event included a tribute ‘memory board’, which people had filled in during the evening with the names of loved-ones who they had lost.
“Not only did we raise a staggering £330, we had a fantastic evening where many members of the community came together to share their time and energy for such a truly deserving cause,” said Mrs Turner.
