A CALL has gone out to steel manufacturers to help in a new world record attempt – to make the world’s largest clothes peg!

Lakeland Fells Furniture - a Windermere bespoke furniture specialist - is aiming to create the giant peg to raise money for charity.

But they need a giant-sized spring for it to work.

“We have the wood coming from a supplier, we have the tools, we have expertise, but we need a big steel coil,” explained managing director Andy Smith, from Windermere.

"The steel will need to be more than an inch thick and the coil almost 12 inches long to fit into the peg, which is going to measure four metres."

"The aim is to raise money for Alice’s Escapes, the charity established by the late Ulverston teenager Alice Pyne , to provide respite holidays for families with terminally ill children."

The finished product will be pegged onto a washing line outside the caravan owned by the charity, where  families benefit from Alice’s legacy.

Andy learned his trade after studying as an apprentice cabinet maker at Kendal College before setting up the workshop business in Back Ellerthwaite Road.

Steel manufacturers who might be able to help are asked to call Andy on 015394 45732.
