Dales man tipped to be Prince George's godfather
3:00pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
THE 39-year-old son of the late Dales shooting estate owner Hugh van Cutsem is being tipped as a godfather to Prince George.
Royal watchers predict Hugh van Cutsem Jr could be asked to be a godparent because of his close friendship with the Duke of Cambridge.
Mr van Cutsem, who is one of Prince William’s oldest childhood friends, is also a friend of Prince Harry as are his brothers Edward, Nicholas and William.
The princes both regularly shoot with the van Cutsems on the Garsdale estate near Hawes, as does Prince Charles who was at Cambridge with Hugh van Cutsem Sr, 72, who died last month after a long illness.
The ceremonial connections between the van Cutsems and the princes are well-established. William and Harry were both ushers at Nicholas van Cutsem’s wedding in 2005 to Rose Astor. William is also godfather to Hugh junior’s daughter Grace, who was a flower girl at the royal wedding.
Photographs of her covering her ears on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the RAF flypast appeared on TV and in newspapers around the world.
Prince George, who is third in line to the throne, will be baptised by the Archbishop of Cantebury at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace on October 23.A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said: “We are not giving details of the guest list at this stage.”
