Contentious plan for 148 new homes in Kendal is approved

CONTROVERSIAL plans for 148 homes next to Strawberry Fields in Kendal have been given the thumbs up by a government inspector.
Oakmere Homes lodged an appeal after South Lakeland District Council failed to reach a decision on the Oxenholme Road application within a time limit prescribed by planning rules.
The scheme, which went to a public inquiry in June, was opposed by a group of local residents who argued that granting approval would lead to the overdevelopment of what is currently a greenfield site.
But planning inspector Brendan Lyons said there was a ‘pressing need’ to boost the housing supply in Kendal and the site was ‘well placed to meet the need’.
