A ‘climate crime scene’ stall will be set up at Kendal’s Birdcage on Finkle Street next month.
The protest on Saturday November 1 is by campaigners from a Kendal group concerned with social justice. It is part of a global month of action called Dirty Energy Month.
The month aims to 'illustrate how big UK banks are financing ‘dirty energy’ projects and the eviction of communities in order to mine fossil fuels'.
Protestors say such projects would not be acceptable within UK borders – on environmental and human rights grounds.
The event takes place at Andy Mason, a Local World Development Movement activist said: “On Saturday, look out for our yellow Crime Scene tape around our Birdcage Extraction Zone: our group will be manning the scene and will be happy to discuss the concerns over UK banks’ investments”.
The month has a specific focus on HSBC which organiser accuse of being the UK’s largest underwriter of fossil fuel companies.
On October 31 in Kendal, the public can hear directly from an Indonesian activist whose group is resisting the mining that opponents say is 'destroying pristine rainforest and polluting drinking water'. Hendrik Siregar will speak at Kendal's Friends Meeting House on Stramongate from 7pm in a free event with contributions welcome and tea and coffee provided.
