OFGEM: 'The energy watchdog with no bark, no bite and which needs to be put to sleep' - Farron

WESTMORLAND MP Tim Farron has launched a scathing attack on the 'toothless' energy watchdog Ofgem as the row over energy price rises intensifies.
During a debate on last night's BBC Question Time in Liverpool, the Lib Dem President said public anger was justified but that the situation was not helped by having an ineffective regulator.
Mr Farron told the audience: “We have the weakest and most useless of all the regulators looking after our energy sector.
"Ofgem is pathetic in the extreme. Ofwat, the water regulator is able to prevent water companies putting up their prices more than once every five years. It recently stopped Thames Water trying to hike their prices, we need to same in the energy sector."
"That is the quickest way we can put the 20% of the bill that is the hands of the big six energy companies."
He added: “If you have got a watchdog like Ofgem that has got no tooth, no bite and no bark put that flaming watchdog down and you replace them with something that can genuinely cut prices.”
A spokeswoman for Ofgem said it is unlikely to be responding to Mr Farron's claims.
