Heron Corn Mill, Beetham, welcomes visitors to see exciting new refurbishment work
12:20pm Saturday 26th October 2013 in News
THERE were cheers of delight at the Heron Corn Mill, Beetham, as visitors were finally able to see all the refurbishment work that had been carried out throughout the summer.
After help from the heritage lottery fund, today (Saturday October 26) was the first time visitors were setting foot on the site, with chairman of trustees, Roger Bingham welcoming the crowds.
One of the beautifully refurbished buildings was packed full of children taking part in arts and crafts, with tombola and coffee and cake for all to enjoy.
Families were also welcomed by two hilarious actors from the Bread and Butter Theatre Company who played the part of overzealous building inspectors.
Roger Bingham gave a short speech as he thanked Audrey Steely, creative projects manager for Heron Corn Mill, and the heritage lottery fund for all their help.
Roger said: “I have been chairman here since 1991 and this is one of the greatest historic moments for Beetham and the mill.”
The Grade II listed building has been on the site since 1220 and has been a significant part of the Beetham community.
He added: “We hope that the newly refurbished building here can be used as an education facility for the community and even as an extra village hall for Beetham.
“We also hope that we can encourage more people to come to this beautiful area.”
