KENDAL and Milnthorpe firefighters assisted in the rescue of a canoeist from the River Kent at Levens.
Both fire services were called at 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday October 27), with the Swift Water Rescue Command and Support, paramedics and police all assisting in the rescue.
The canoeist had taken advantage of the fast flowing waters and had injured his shoulder, unable to get out of the river.
He was in a particularly bad spot and couldn’t climb out of the embankment. When firefighters got to the incident the man was being treated at the scene.
The fire team gained access by cutting through a gate which gave access to the embankment. They set up a rope system so they haul them up.
The man eventually walked up the embankment to safety.
