Shap Chippy scoops national award
8:40pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in News
THE new owners of Shap Chippy have scooped a national award just a few months after taking over.
The chippy has joined the fish frying elite from across the UK, after winning the prestigious Fish and Chip Quality Award.
The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), the trade body that represents fish and chip shops, runs the scheme to help raise standards within the trade and enhance the profile of the industry.
Shap Chippy was reopened in April by Jo Hampson and Georgina Perkins after closing last September. The two bought the building in February and completely refurbished it.
Ms Hampson said: “We knew there was a lot to do. The building needed a new roof and new floors and major work to everything in between.
“Having lived in Shap for 12 years we remember it being a great fish and chip shop and restaurant – and that’s what we want it to be again.”
To qualify for the award each shop has to be inspected in a number of areas including hygiene, frying and sales skills and the quality of the product.
