THE Lakeland Sinfonia Concert Society series welcomes back conductor Giovanni Guzzo and the Manchester Camerata on Saturday, November 9 (7.30pm).
The Westmorland Hall (Lakes Leisure Kendal) concert also provides a splendid opportunity to hear Italian composer and cellist Giovanni Sollima play Schumann’s Cello Concerto. Sollima also performs in his own Folktales for Cello and Orchestra.
The programme also features Libertango, one of the most famous pieces written by the Argentinian king of tango Piazzolla, and Elgar’s exhilarating Introduction and Allegro for strings.
Meanwhile, members of the Manchester Camerata return to Kendal on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14 (3.30pm) for a concert for all ages, Animal Magic, conducted and compered by Timothy Redmond.
The first half comprises a mix of animal-themed pieces, such as Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, the Waltz from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and The Hen from Respighi's The Birds, plus the Circle of Life from The Lion King and Colonel Hathi's March from Jungle Book.
In the second part, Paul Hine narrates Prokoviev's Peter and the Wolf. For tickets telephone 01539-722533.
