South Lakeland District Council to increase number of social letting properties
SOUTH Lakeland District Council’s Cabinet has approved an increase of social letting properties from 20 to 50 which will provide housing for people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
The 20 properties that the council currently leases in the private sector are rented under a licence to a tenant.
This has been run successfully for a year. By increasing the scheme to 50 properties, SLDC will be able to prevent more people from becoming homeless.
There is currently a demand for more privately rented accommodation in the district and the expansion of social lettings will provide additional homes.
