ANDREW Kirkwood of Endmoor demonstrated his supreme craftsmanship by taking the top honour in a north Lancashire hedgelaying competition.
Shrugging off the terrible weather conditions - torrential rain, thunder and lightning - Mr Kirkwood took the championship title in the Arnside and Silverdale AONB event at Bottoms Farm, Silverdale, on Saturday.
First prize in the open class went to Jack Carradice from Kendal while Thomas Kendal from Grayrigg was top in the novice section. Also taking part was Peter Gibson of Kendal who was last month named National Hedgelaying Champion.
The Silverdale competition was held as part of the Lancashire and Westmorland Hedgelaying Association Grand Prix series. The next hedgelaying challenge will be on December 7 in Sedbergh.
