Changes under way at Aira Force, near Ullswater
10:01am Tuesday 5th November 2013 in News
WORK to improve the visitor facilities at a landmark Lakeland waterfall began this week.
It has seen the closure of the National Trust car park at Aira Force, on the shore of Ullswater.
The iconic waterfall and its surrounding woodland landscape has received significant investment to improve access and visitor facilities on the site.
The work will include repairs to footpaths and bridges, a new welcome building and off-road path between Glencoyne and Glenridding.
The car park will be closed for at least 12 weeks while work starts on the new visitor building.
Alternative car parking and access to the Aira Force waterfall and woodland paths is available at High Cascades and Park Brow (A5091).
The new welcome building will be sited in the existing car park and aims to inspire visitors to enjoy the wider landscape surrounding the falls.
The improvement works at Aira Force are due to be completed by March 2014.
