HUNDREDS of tourists are expected to flock to three Morecambe Bay towns to view a ‘world-class’ photo-graphy exhibition next summer.

The ‘2020Vision’ display, made up of images of the natural world, will come to Grange-over-Sands, Morecambe and Barrow-in-Furness between May and August, following stints at the prestigious Southbank in London, Edinburgh’s Botanical Gardens and Brighton promenade.

“This is a great chance for these towns to put themselves on the map along with some of the best-known venues in the UK,” said Susannah Bleakley, executive director of the Morecambe Bay Partnership, which has worked hard to bring the exhibition to the area.

“The images are breathtaking and will bring people to the towns from right around the region. We want the three towns to feel proud that this world-class display is coming to them.”

The photographs were taken by 20 photographers under 20 ‘headings’ – with several pictures of the Lake District and Morecambe Bay in the portfolio.

They will be displayed as a ‘street gallery’ on 100 panels, and Morecambe Bay Partnership staff also plan to organise workshops, film screenings, plays and competitions to comple-ment the show and pull in tourists.

However, to do this they will need another £21,500, in addition to the £22,000 they have already raised.

“This will be great for the towns involved as people will visit them and then spend money,” said Susannah.“We think it will really showcase what the area has to offer and benefit the local economy.

“However we do need more money and we hope the public will help.”

Any money given through the ‘Big Give’ website between December 5 and 7 will be doubled as part of a Christmas Challenge.

Donors are asked to give as close to 10am as possible each day as the money to ‘double’ is limited.
