People on Hallgarth at Kendal will know funding has started to come in to replace the play equipment on the playing field.

I’d like residents to let me know what sort of equipment they’d like to see.

On behalf of the Hallgarth Community Centre management committee I wrote a bid for £26,600 to South Lakeland District Council's New Homes Bonus which was agreed, and my bid to Kendal Town Council for £5,000 has got provisional agreement and hopefully will go through in January.

In addition, the developers of the Hallgarth Cottage site are contributing £13,400.

This initial pot of money means the play area will definitely be rebuilt, hope-fully by Easter though this will depend on tendering processes etc.

I have asked SLDC to delay the process for a short while so I can ask residents, including young people, what sort of play equipment they would like, perhaps giving examples of things they have seen elsewhere, or any other play and adventure activities that could be incorporated.

I’m also keen to know if people want a separate toddlers area, and if so where, or prefer to keep all the play equipment in one place.

You can let me know by email at r.boden @ southlakeland.gov.uk, or in writing either via SLDC or drop it in at the Community Centre.

I’m there on Satur-day mornings at 10am if you want to talk about the play area or any other matter.
