LOWTHER Estates wants to create a car park at Chapel Stile on estate land, Lakes Parish Council has been told.

Lowther has taken management of more than 10,000 acres of its land at Langdale back from the National Trust and considered that Chapel Stile desperately needed a car park.

Two possible sites have been located and will be discussed by the parish council this month.

If feasible, the parish council will call a public meeting at Chapel Stile at which Lowther Estates will display plans and consult the public.

It would be a pay car park, which would help recoup the cost and would operate the new ‘park with ease’ system used at White Moss Common, which used CCTV and number plate recognition software allowing motorists to pay on entry or exit, or up to 10 days later.
